Thanks to Simply Yours Weddings, I’ll stay simply sane!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

That’s right…with the guidance and direction of Emily Humphries, owner of Simply Yours Weddings & Etc., a local wedding planning and coordinating company, our wedding day is sure to go without a hitch. But if it doesn’t…thankfully I won’t know about it because Emily will gracefully pull things together and make everything work as it should.

I met Emily through the Blog Camp by AshleysBrideGuide.com. I don’t know about her, but I felt an instant connection! I was completely drawn to this gal. We’ve had several coffee dates and she’s given me all kinds of much-needed advice and direction. From catering suggestions to guest list guidance, she’s got it all. Not to mention, she’s a singer and a lover of music. Need I say more? Anyone who knows me KNOWS this makes Emily the perfect match as my right hand gal on the big day.

Thanks to Ashley for introducing me to such a fantastic lady!

Bridesmaid Intros – My Maid of Honor – She said yes!

Monday, November 16th, 2009

On the weekend of August 29, 2009, my first cousin, Miss Jill Farmer happily said YES to being my Maid of Honor.

That was her birthday weekend and my parents’ anniversary weekend, so it was a perfect time to pop the question. Philip and I were home, in Illinois, and Jill had come over for dinner that evening. All afternoon I’d played out in my mind the different ways to ask her. While dinner was being finished, Jill and I had decided to take a quick stroll on Facebook. Then came the perfect opportunity.

Jill had gotten up to take a quick phone call. While she was up, I opened Google Documents and opened up the word processor. In big, bold letters I typed…

Jill…It would be an honor…if you would be my maid of honor…?

I saved the page and clicked to a different browser tab. Once she returned from her phone call, she sat down and asked “Now where should I click to get to Facebook?”

Here it was…the moment I’d been waiting for…

“Here. Click that one,” I said, strategically pointing to the other tab I’d cleverly disguised. When the Google Document page appeared, she seemed confused for a moment, then I could see she was reading the whole sentence…then a hand went over her mouth as she turned quickly to me, smiling, and said “Really?!”

“Yes!” I said, as we both leapt to our feet and embraced as a happy tear or two ran down our cheeks. This was such a cool moment.

Thankfully she accepted my invitation and has since proved to be the BEST Maid of Honor a girl could ever imagine.

Jill and I have been close nearly as long as I can recall in my memory. Of course, as with every relationship, we’ve had our ups and downs. I attribute any of our not so bright and shining moments to adolescence. Thanks to age, maturity and experience, however, we’ve never been closer…and our bond has continued to strengthen over the past several years.

Jill, thank you for being the sister I never had. I’m so blessed to not only call you family…but also a best friend. I’m grateful our parents raised us both as strong women and I look forward to sharing many, many more significant life events with you. Thank you for being you. I love you.

Jill and Krista through the years…

Any Nashville brides want $55 worth of free wedding magazines?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Happy November everyone!

I know it’s been several weeks since I’ve written. Not for lack of inspiration, believe me. I have ALL kinds of things I want to tell you about! It’s truly been for lack of time. I wish there was a way to cram a few more hours in the day! I just never have enough time for everything I want to get done! Anyone else feeling me on this one? Unfortunately blogging has taken a back seat in relation to work, play and wedding planning. Tsk tsk. :( I promise I’ll do better. *pinkie swear*

Now that BecomingMrsDial has apologized for being reclusive…on to the fun stuff!

Because our wedding plans are full-steam ahead (and I have a blog reader FULL of amazing wedding blogs), I’ve decided I no longer need my stack of wedding magazines:

free-wedding-mags

If you’re a bride, I would LOVE to give them to you! Help me freecycle them! As pictured above, I have 5 magazines and one Pink Book, which is a wedding planner for Nashville brides. It lists many great local wedding resources. There’s a high possibility I have several more laying around that I would happily pass along as well. This is just what I found as I was cleaning last weekend.

I just added up all the prices on these and this stack is worth more than $55! These dang things are expensive. Thank goodness for the world of wedding blogs. :)

If you’re interested in taking these home, leave a comment below. You get extra points if you can recommend a Nashville caterer or two. That’s our next big hurdle…after we tackle the guest list this weekend.

If you know another bride on a budget, please tell her about my little freecycle giveway. I need to get away from these and focus!
