It would be difficult for me to share ALLLL of the reasons I adore Philip. There are TONS. But every time I think of a REALLY good one…I HAVE to share it.
Today’s Ode to Philip was inspired because…
#3 – He’s helping me toilet train my cats. Yes. You read that right. We are toilet training my cats. Not litter training. They’ve got that one down pat. Toilet training. Yes. As in, I’m sharing my bathroom with two felines.

This is Ozzy.

This is Ella.
Before you call me crazy, however, consider some of the benefits:
No more poop scooping.
I’ll save money since I won’t have to buy litter anymore.
No litterbox = removal of a smelly eyesore = more space.
Less litter mess = less vacuuming.
We’re in our 4th week of toilet training with the CitiKitty system.

Week by week, as indicated in the instructions, we remove one ring from the CitiKitty, which progressively makes the hole larger until it reaches the normal size of the toilet seat. Once we get to this stage, the cats should technically be toilet trained.
Unfortunately Ozzy has had a few accidents this past week…meaning we’ve got to stay at the current stage for another week or so. Apparently one of his furry little paws slipped in the hole and it scared him. Poor little guy. Thankfully I’ve been able to keep an eye on him over the past day or two (due to the 4 inches of icy snow outside) and he’s given it another whirl.
Hopefully within the next month they’ll be completely trained! *fingers crossed*
I’ll keep you posted. I have many more wedding details coming soon! Have a warm, safe weekend!

Isn’t this kind of a pain when YOU have to use the toilet? lol How does that work?
We tried the CitiKitty with our cat Steve Perry! Our first try didn’t go so well, but we introduced our puppy in the middle of it so we think that threw things off a bit. We are hoping to try it again soon because I think it would be AWESOME to not have to worry about the litter box!! GOOD LUCK!!
Hi Brittany! Haha. You’re right. It HAS been kind of a pain. Even more so because I only have a one bathroom apartment. When we’re married in 4 months, (HOLY COW 4 MONTHS! EEK!) our new place will have 2 bathrooms…or at least 1.5 bathrooms. Unfortunately now I just have to lift it out and sit it to the side while I’m occupying it.
But I’m TOTALLY cool with that if it means no more poop scooping! Thanks for stopping by Brittney! I’ve bookmarked your blog. Our wedding is ALSO on a big time budget – $5,000 total (including honeymoon). Best of luck with your planning AND your budget! I look forward to following along on your journey!
Hey there Jessica! Amen sister! If I no longer have to scoop poo…I’m happy! Yeh, my cats were super hesitant at first. And poor little Ozzy has let a paw slip through once or twice which has scared him to death…but he’s just now coming back around to it. I could totally see how introducing a puppy into the mix could throw things off a bit! BTW…As I was researching cat toilet training over the weekend (particularly due to Ozzy’s accidents), I learned of another cat toilet training system called Litter Kwitter. It’s more expensive, but DOES seem to be manufactured better than the CitiKitty. (You know how you have to cut the rings out of the CitiKitty? Well, the rings with the Litter Kwitter interlock, so you simply remove them…and can easily go back a step if you need to. I like that aspect of it.) Just an FYI. Good luck with yours too!
You have really inspired me to try this with Lily Mae.
Oh wow. I wonder if Less Kitty can be trained. Does it matter how old they are?
Yeh. I can’t wait until they’re both trained! I don’t believe it matters how old they are. I’d wait until the cat is litter trained. Once it’s litter trained, should be fine to start toilet training.
